PURE & GENTLE ADDS A FOURTH MANUFACTURING LEADERSHIPS AWARD WIN

The glitter, the gala, and most importantly, the green. Pure & Gentle is at it again: for four years running, Pure & Gentle is honored to be recognized as a Manufacturing Leadership Awards winner for outstanding achievement in Sustainability in Manufacturing.

Since our company’s beginning 40 years ago, Pure & Gentle has prioritized the health of people, pets, and the planet by formulating 100% biodegradable, non-toxic concentrate products for home and personal care. Sustainability is a foundational mission that drives our business, and we embrace sustainable practices broadly and deeply throughout the organization. By formulating concentrated home cleaning and personal care products, transitioning to pouch packing, offering water-conserving bar soap products, and engaging in sustainable partnerships, we support a circular economy that benefits both the environment and our customers. Learn more about Pure and Gentle’s efforts and why the National Association of Manufacturers has recognized our work four years in a row:

The power of pouch packaging

Pure & Gentle has invested in Circular Economy goals by transitioning our core business product design into a pouch-packaging system that minimizes plastic pollution. Pouches offer a packaging solution that is both convenient and environmentally friendly by:

  • using up to 60% less plastic than rigid plastic bottles;
  • producing significantly less landfill waste;
  • requiring fewer trucks on the road (7 to 1 vs. rigid PET bottles);
  • requiring approximately 50% less energy to produce;
  • generating fewer CO2 emissions during production; and
  • reducing shipping pollution.

By pairing pouches with our eConcentrate® product formulations, Pure & Gentle products take up 95-99% less landfill space than traditional plastic bottles by volume. By preventing landfill waste, minimizing plastic pollution, reducing shipping pollution, and conserving energy, we contribute to a more resilient Circular Economy for our planet.

Concentrated products support sustainable practices

Pure & Gentle has built our product portfolio around a central idea—don’t pay for water twice. By providing a concentrated product system that eliminates water from the formulations, our eConcentrate® product formulations provide numerous environmental benefits:

  • allow for greater shipping efficiencies by minimizing trucks on the road;
  • reduce packaging materials and waste;
  • conserve water; and
  • cause no harm to our oceans or waterways with 100% biodegradable, all-natural ingredients.

When customers receive Pure & Gentle’s concentrated products, they add water from home. Water isn’t shipped, sold, or wasted.

Supporting the Circular Economy with Net Zero Processes

Throughout our manufacturing processes and facility, Pure & Gentle maintains Net Zero initiatives by emitting no harmful greenhouse gases (GHGs) as well as no methane, nitrous oxide, or other hydrofluorocarbons. We’ve been carbon-neutral since 2009 and began transitioning from carbon-neutral toward carbon-negative and have taken active steps toward this goal. Since it’s impossible to emit a negative amount of carbon, the term carbon-negative refers to the net emissions you create. Offsetting more than you emit is the difference between being carbon-neutral and carbon-negative, and we are steadily moving toward that goal by investing in more efficient machinery, incrementally increasing our carbon offsets, and exploring renewable energy sources.

Bar soaps conserve water and reduce packaging

While Pure & Gentle has always offered bar soaps to our customers, this year we expanded our manufacturing capabilities to provide our customers even more bar soap options. The environmental benefits of bar soaps compared to liquid soaps are numerous, including:

  • conserving water by using concentrated ingredients that are inherently water-free and require less water during manufacturing; and
  • drastically reducing the environmental packaging footprint as bar soaps are packaged in minimal, plastic-free packaging, which helps reduce plastic waste.

As with our other processes and practices, bar soaps support Pure & Gentle’s foundational sustainable mission.

Sustainable partnerships for a better future

As a part of Pure & Gentle’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, we partner with suppliers and vendors that are socially and environmentally aligned with our vision to create sustainable partnerships. Specifically, we ensure our raw materials are sourced from responsibly sourced suppliers that provide only all-natural, non-hazardous,100% biodegradable ingredients for Pure & Gentle products.

The Pure & Gentle team is proud to share the news of this award and we’re even prouder to bring sustainable products for a better future. As consumers grow increasingly aware of climate change and its impact on their lives, they now expect brands and companies to make a difference by taking responsibility for their manufacturing and shipping processes. And we do. Pure & Gentle brings product, process, and manufacturing innovations that help improve the planet’s future and the lives of our customers and partners.
